Google Docs , not just for s & s users

I have written a post more than a year a go about end of Microsoft monopoly. I have mentioned thinkfree as a solution but nowadays I find myself and my colleagues using Google docs as a powerful sharing platform. It is a known fact that approximately 75% of features included in the office package arent in use by most of the users. Obviously from time to time when we need some sophisticated spreadsheet functionality we will ultimately find them in the MSEXCEL. In most of the cases what Google offer is good enough for most of us, not just stupid/simple users but also savvy ones.
Still, the main advantage of this platform is the sharing capabilities. User can view & edit the same document at the same time, they can view who is doing what, run a chat between all users of the document, access it from any place worldwide with no need to manage any server/client application for it. It is so simple, so powerful.
Strongly recommended (http://docs.google.com).

I hope all my friends at Microsoft will forgive me for this post. Guys, I am still big fan of yours whenever it comes to development platforms, infrastructures, servers etc...

Are the number of search results in Google real?

As promissed before...
I am showing this again and again to people and so far everybody was shocked.
Try to search for any value in Google. Take for example "George Bush"
You are going to get 12,000,000 results.
I asked myself one day how does the 11,999,999 result look like. So I started paging and was extremely surprised to find out that I never passed 1000 results.
Try it yourself, try any search combination, try live.com as well. You will get the same result.
The question is - why does Google and other search engines as well show us those millions of results?

Is this the end of the Office monopoly?

I have started using http://www.thinkfree.com/ online office and I am thrilled.
This online office worth a serious check of anybody who is using Microsoft office . As a heavy user of MS Office I must admit that this product is really close the original but much cheaper.
True, all the new feature of Office 2007 aren't there, however, I am not that sure that the simple user really needs them. Sophisticated users might still want to use the traditional Office package as I still do.
The benefits of the product or more precisely, the service are many:
  1. It is free
  2. All web based
  3. It is self explanatory - whoever worked with office will know immediately what to do
  4. You get 1GB storage - for free
  5. It has all you need from word processor, spreadsheet and presentation engine. It is much more powerful than Google's competitive package.
  6. If you insist of having an Offline tool for flights you can buy for $50.

The only question is, for how long will it last? How long will it take to Microsoft to buy this company...

Meanwhile, enjoy !

Can I get 5 hours battery Laptop...

"It is MAC" - those were my words when I first saw Vista. Guys, don't take me wrong I am not of those anti Microsoft guys...and for full disclosure we develop everything on Microsoft platforms. But what I miss more than anything in my day to day work isn't anything that Vista can give me. I was using MAC few times for QA purposes, and the most impressive things I found were the stability (no need for restarts, no processes were stuck...) and the...BATTERY. The laptop battery last for 5 hours (no need to replace in a middle of a meeting or more important during a flight).
So if someone has something to copy from our MAC neighbor he should start with the important ones...

Not just a link preview

One of the coolest tools I have seen lately is Snap. I also use it in my blog (and it took 5 seconds to add..) but what people don't know is that on www.snap.com you can also perform web search. True, you dont get the 500M results of Google (and I will write another post on this issue seperately since the numbers of reslts you see on Google should be questioned...) however, how many times you were on Google's list and wanted to see what stands behind particular result without leaving the list. Snap's solution is so simple but so user friendly too, a preview which is pretty similar to reading pane in most of the common email applications.
Another nice solution for the same problem you can find in Walla Search where you can see the preview inline.
